Organizations

Organizations are the top-level workspace in Pointeron. Every asset, device, geofence, team member, and billing subscription belongs to an organization.

What is an organization

An organization is the central container for everything you do in Pointeron. When you sign up and complete onboarding, you create your first organization. All of your tracking data, team members, alert configurations, API keys, and billing details live inside this organization.

Think of an organization as a company, a department, or a client account -- any logical grouping that needs its own isolated set of tracking resources.

Creating an organization

Your first organization is created during the onboarding flow immediately after account registration. During setup you will:

  1. Choose a name for your organization
  2. Select a plan (Basic, Business, or Enterprise)
  3. Configure your timezone and default map center
  4. Optionally invite your first team members

Additional organizations can be created from the sidebar menu if your account supports multiple workspaces.

Organization settings

Navigate to Settings > Organization to configure your workspace. The following settings are available:

  • Name -- The display name shown in the sidebar, reports, and notifications.
  • Timezone -- Used for trip timestamps, report generation, scheduled alerts, and activity logs. All times in the dashboard are displayed in this timezone.
  • Default map center -- The initial map position when opening the Live Map. Set this to the area where most of your assets operate.
  • Notification preferences -- Configure organization-wide defaults for email notifications, alert delivery, and digest frequency.

Switching organizations

A single user account can belong to multiple organizations. This is useful for fleet managers overseeing multiple clients, consultants managing separate accounts, or businesses with distinct regional operations.

To switch organizations, click the organization name in the sidebar and select a different workspace from the dropdown. All data in the dashboard updates immediately to reflect the selected organization.

Note

Your role and permissions may differ between organizations. For example, you might be an Owner in one organization and a Member in another.

Organization summary

The organization dashboard provides a high-level overview of your workspace:

  • Total assets -- Number of assets currently configured.
  • Devices online / offline -- Real-time count of devices actively reporting versus those that have gone silent.
  • Active geofences -- Number of geofences currently monitoring asset boundaries.
  • Recent alerts -- The latest geofence triggers, speed violations, and device status changes.
  • API usage -- Current billing period API call count and rate limit utilization.

This summary is the first thing you see after logging in, giving you an instant snapshot of your entire operation.

Data isolation

Each organization's data is completely isolated from every other organization. Team members can only access assets, devices, geofences, location history, reports, and API keys within their own organization. There is no cross-organization data access.

This isolation extends to:

  • Location data -- All GPS coordinates, trip records, and historical positions are scoped to the organization.
  • Team members -- Users in one organization cannot see or interact with users in another.
  • API keys -- Keys are bound to a single organization and can only access that organization's resources.
  • Webhooks and integrations -- Each organization configures its own webhook endpoints and third-party integrations independently.

Deleting an organization

Only the organization Owner can delete an organization. This action is performed from Settings > Organization > Danger Zone.

When you delete an organization:

  1. The active subscription is cancelled immediately.
  2. All assets, devices, and device assignments are removed.
  3. All geofences, alert rules, and notification configurations are deleted.
  4. All location history and trip records are permanently erased.
  5. All team member access is revoked.
  6. All API keys and webhooks are invalidated.

Warning

Deleting an organization permanently removes all assets, devices, geofences, location history, and team members. This action is irreversible and cannot be undone. Export any data you need before proceeding.
