Live Map

The Live Map is the central view of Pointeron. It shows all your assets in real time, updated via WebSocket connections -- no page refreshes needed.

Overview

When you open the Live Map, you see your entire fleet at a glance. Asset markers update their position as new location data arrives from devices. The map is surrounded by panels that give you quick access to asset details, filters, and statistics.

The Live Map layout consists of five main areas:

1. Stats bar at the top
2. Geofence filter bar below the stats
3. Asset panel on the left
4. Map area in the center
5. Detail panel on the right (appears when an asset is selected)

Stats bar

The stats bar runs across the top of the Live Map and provides a real-time summary of your fleet:

Each stat includes a trend indicator showing whether the count has increased or decreased compared to the previous period. Click any stat to filter the asset list to that status.

Geofence filter bar

Below the stats bar is the geofence filter bar. Use it to control which geofences are visible on the map. You can toggle individual geofences on or off, or filter by category.

This is useful when you have many geofences and want to focus on a specific area or group. Hidden geofences are still active for alerting -- the filter only affects map visibility.

Asset panel

The asset panel on the left side of the map lists all your assets. Each row shows:

• Asset name and icon
• Current zone (the geofence the asset is currently inside, if any)
• Battery level as a percentage with a color indicator
• Last update time showing how recently the device reported

Searching and filtering

Use the search box at the top of the panel to find assets by name or code. You can also filter assets by:

• Status -- Online, idle, offline
• Category -- Show only assets in a specific category
• Geofence -- Show only assets currently inside a specific geofence

Click an asset in the panel to select it. The map centers on that asset and the detail panel opens on the right.

Map area

The map area is the interactive center of the Live Map. It displays:

• Asset markers -- Icons showing the current position of each asset, colored by status
• Trails -- Recent movement paths for assets that are in motion
• Accuracy radius -- A faint dashed circle around the selected or followed asset when the device reports GPS accuracy
• Geofence zones -- Colored overlays showing geofence boundaries
• Clusters -- When zoomed out, nearby assets are grouped into numbered clusters

The accuracy radius shows the uncertainty of the latest reported location. It appears only for the selected asset or the asset you are following, and it moves with the live marker as new location updates arrive. A larger circle means the device reported a less precise fix, which is common for Find My / iCloud devices, indoor GPS readings, or dense urban areas.

Interacting with the map

• Click an asset marker to select it and open the detail panel
• Click a geofence to see its name and configuration
• Drag to pan the map
• Scroll or pinch to zoom
• Double-click to zoom in on a specific location

The map provides several control buttons:

Map styles

Pointeron offers multiple map styles to suit different use cases and preferences. Available styles vary by plan:

• Free plan -- Standard map style
• Basic and above -- Additional styles including satellite imagery, terrain view, dark mode, and more

Switch between map styles using the layers control in the bottom-right corner of the map.

Detail panel

When you select an asset (by clicking its marker on the map or its row in the asset panel), the detail panel opens on the right side of the screen. It shows comprehensive information about the selected asset.

Header

The panel header displays the asset name, status indicator, and category. Quick action buttons let you edit the asset or access settings directly.

Status information

The main section of the detail panel shows:

• Status -- Online, idle, or offline with duration
• Speed -- Current speed (if moving)
• Battery -- Current battery level with color indicator
• Location -- Human-readable address or place name
• Coordinates -- Latitude and longitude
• Geofence -- The geofence the asset is currently inside (if any)

The detail panel has four tabs for deeper information:

Following mode

Following mode locks the map to a specific asset. As the asset moves, the map automatically pans to keep it centered. This is useful for monitoring a single asset in real time, such as a delivery vehicle on its route.

To enable following mode:

1. Select an asset on the map or in the asset panel
2. Click the Follow button in the detail panel header
3. The map will center on the asset and track its movement

To exit following mode, click the Stop Following button or manually pan the map.

If the followed asset reports accuracy, the map keeps its accuracy radius attached to the moving marker so you can see both the current position and the reported uncertainty while tracking it.
